Gazer
Privacy Policy
Gazer helps you check stargazing conditions for a location. It does not require a named account, but some optional features—especially Sky Watch reminders—use device-linked information so they can work.
Information Gazer Handles
- Location and selected places: if you allow location access, Gazer uses your device's location to show local conditions. Coordinates you select on the map—and a place name you choose—are also sent to the service when needed to calculate scores, forecasts, maps, nearby places, or a multi-place plan. Normal score and map requests are not intended to create a location history or profile.
- Sky Watch data: if you create a server-backed Sky Watch reminder, Gazer stores a random per-install identifier, your APNs push token when notification permission allows it, the place name and coordinates you chose to watch, reminder settings and timestamps, and limited Plus authorization source/expiry information needed to keep that watch eligible. It also keeps a bounded recent record of whether a reminder was sent, suppressed, or failed, with its time and reason. Gazer does not continuously collect your device location in the background for Sky Watch.
- Gifted Plus access: if you redeem a gifted Plus link, Gazer stores the same random per-install identifier and the redemption status so it can provide or revoke that access. It does not create a named user account.
- Subscription verification: Apple processes subscription payments. Gazer never receives payment-card details. When needed to unlock Plus server features, the app sends Apple-signed transaction information to Gazer for verification. A Sky Watch may retain limited authorization and expiry information, but Gazer does not maintain a payment-card record or a full customer profile from the transaction.
- Technical and diagnostic data: our server and hosting providers may process request timestamps, IP address, request URL, device/app metadata, and error details for security, reliability, and debugging. Aggregate service metrics do not include raw coordinates.
- Support messages: if you email support, we receive the information in your message and use it to respond or troubleshoot.
How We Use It
- Provide scores, maps, forecasts, nearby-place results, and planning tools.
- Deliver the Sky Watch reminder you explicitly set up.
- Operate, protect, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
What Gazer Does Not Do
- Gazer does not sell personal information.
- Gazer does not use personal information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Gazer does not require a named user account to use the app.
Service Providers
Gazer uses Apple services for maps, notifications, and purchases. Its backend uses weather, air-quality, sky-darkness, and nearby-place data providers to answer requests. Coordinates needed for a forecast or nearby search may be sent to the relevant provider through the backend. Those providers handle information under their own policies.
Data Retention
Local saved spots and local reminders remain on your device until you remove them or delete the app. Active server-backed Sky Watch rules remain until they are deleted or you ask us to delete the server record. Removing a rule stops future checks for that rule. Disabling a device registration stops remote delivery and clears its stored push token, but the device record and a bounded recent delivery diagnostic may remain for reliability troubleshooting until deletion is requested. Gifted Plus redemption records may remain while a grant is active, after it is revoked, or until deletion is requested. Aggregate operational metrics are retained for up to seven days; other operational logs follow the retention settings of our hosting providers.
Your Choices
- You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings and select a place manually on the map instead.
- You can pause or delete a Sky Watch rule in Gazer, and you can turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
- To ask for deletion of server-held Sky Watch or gifted-Plus records, contact support. We may need enough information to locate the record without asking you to send unnecessary personal information.
